NetQuarry Continues Internship Program in 2014

NetQuarry’s summer internship program is in full swing with its biggest year yet! A total of five interns are working together on a variety of basic software assignments on database applications and extensions, including creating surveys and organizing tables of newly imported information.

With one returnee from last year, the five interns represent a diverse variety of backgrounds: one incoming senior participating in Troy High School’s Tech internship program, one graduated senior from Troy attending USC this fall, a returning junior to Boston University, a returning sophomore to USC, and finally a returning junior to Notre Dame.

Alongside the staff here at NetQuarry, these interns will get a chance to be integrated into the NetQuarry team. Not only will they be contributing directly to the production and overall progress of the company, but they will also learn valuable hands-on lessons that few high school or college classes have the opportunity to teach.

Now that the modern age upon us with software technologies advancing by the year, it is very difficult for newcomers in the industry to find stable ground and understand the nature of the profession. We hope this internship will be an important stepping stone for the futures of these interns as they enter into a technology-filled world.

NetQuarry Kicks Off 2013 Internship Program

Drawing from the great experiences brought about from last summer, NetQuarry has restarted its summer internship program. Three students have been brought in from around the Fullerton area to help with entry-level software tasks (they’re not coffee-fetchers here!) such as finding bugs in the platform, helping serve client requests, and maintaining the website (like writing this blog post).

Two of the interns this summer are incoming seniors who are participating in Troy High School’s required Tech Internship program, while the other is a recent Corona del Mar High School graduate who will be attending MIT in the fall. They will all be under the leadership of a former NetQuarry intern who is currently conducting consulting work with the company and will be attending UCI this fall.

The interns will experience a hands-on introduction to working in the world of software development that provides skills valuable to future pursuits in the industry. They’ll work in a professional environment, develop projects in groups, and handle deadlines.

Computer science classes in high schools and colleges mostly focus on the theoretical aspects and fundamentals of computer science. However, with this standard, the applications themselves, especially in the business world may be glossed over. As interns, the students will be able to apply what they already know about computer science while learning the dynamics of a professional setting.

NetQuarry Starts Its Summer 2012 Internship Program

FULLERTON, Calif. – June 25, 2012 – NetQuarry, Inc. announces the start of its summer 2012 internship program.

This summer’s internship program kicked off this week with three student interns joining the NetQuarry team for up to eight weeks this summer. The interns, who hail from Virginia, Texas, and right here in Fullerton, California, will be learning various aspects of real-world software development.

In the first week the interns will be attending the standard NetQuarry developer training class. In subsequent weeks they will be getting their hands dirty helping out on a number of application development and maintenance projects based on the NetQuarry platform.

The experience they gain in working in a professional development environment during the summer should prove invaluable when they eventually join the working world full time. Many computer science curricula focus on the fundamentals of computer science and do not emphasize the practical engineering processes necessary to product high quality software on time and on budget. During their internships the students will have a chance to live the life of a professional software engineer and get a better understanding of many aspects of their future careers.
